GRE Multilink Sim

September 11th, 2017 Go to comments

Refer to the topology below and answer the following questions.

Topology.jpg

Note: There may be different faults in this sim so please notice the following faults:

1. ACL blocking traffic on interface between R2 and R3
2. The network was not advertised in EIGRP
3. Two routers couldn’t establish adjacency because of ACL
4. Another two routers couldn’t establish adjacency because of wrong IP configuration on interface between them

Question 1

Explanation

The Branch2 network is communicating to the Server farm, which is connected to R2, via GRE Tunnel so we should check the GRE tunnel first to see if it is in “up/up” state with the “show ip interface brief” command on the two routers.

On Branch2:

Branch2_show_ip_interface_brief.jpg

On R2:

R2_show_ip_interface_brief.jpg

We see interfaces Tunnel0 at two ends are “up/up” which are good so we should check for the routing part on two routers with the “show running-config” command and pay attention to the static routing of each router. On Branch2 we see:

R2_show_run_static.jpg

The destination IP address for this static route is not correct. It should be 192.168.24.1 (Tunnel0’s IP address of R2), not 192.168.24.10 -> Answer C is correct.

Note: You can use the “show ip route” command to check the routing configuration on each router but if the destination is not reachable (for example: we configure “ip route 10.10.10.0 255.255.255.0 192.168.24.10” on Branch2, but if 192.168.24.10 is unknown then Branch2 router will not display this routing entry in its routing table.

Note: The IP address or configuration may be different in the exam.

Question 2

Explanation

First we should check Branch3 (and R1) with the “show ip interface brief” command to find any Layer1/Layer 2 issue.

Branch3_show_ip_interface_brief.jpg

We see the interfaces connecting between them are in “up/down” states which indicates an Layer 2 issue so we should check the configuration of these interfaces carefully with the “show running-config” command and pay attention to these interfaces.

R1_show_run_interface.jpg

and on Branch3:

Branch3_show_run_interface.jpg

We learn from above config is R1 is using CHAP to authenticate Branch3 router (via the “ppp authentication chap” command on R1). Branch3 router is sending CHAP hostname “Branch_3” and CHAP password “Branch3_Secret!” to R1 to be authenticated. Therefore we should check if R1 has already been configured with such username and password or not with the “show running-config” command on R1:

R1_show_run_username.jpg

On R1 we see the configured username is “Branch3”, not “Branch_3” so the usernames here are mismatched and this is the problem -> Answer A is correct.

Question 3

Explanation

In this question we have to check each option to see if it is correct. When we check Branch3 router we notice that “network 192.168.10.0” command is missing under “router eigrp 100” -> Answer D is correct.

Branch3_show_run_eigrp.jpg

Note: In the exam you should check other config as well. There are some reports saying that the answer of this question is different in the exam (answer A).

Question 4

Explanation

This question clearly stated there is a WAN connectivity issue between R1 and Branch1 so we should check both of them with the “show ip interface brief” command. On R1:

R1_show_ip_interface_brief.jpg

On Branch1:

Branch1_show_ip_interface_brief.jpg

We can see that although the Multilink1 interfaces are in “up/up” state but they are not in the same subnet. According to the IP address scheme shown on the topology we can deduce the Multilink interface on Branch1 has been misconfigured, it should be 192.168.14.2 instead.

Note:

The configs and answers in the exam may be different as a candidate on our site said:

“1- Why did Branch1 router lose WAN connectivity with R1 router?
The answer here was IP misconfigured but in the exam the problem was in multilink group
2 – Which statement about the router configurations is correct?
The answer here was The Branch3 LAW network 192.168.10.0/24 is not advertised into the EIGRP network but in the exam the right was that PPP PAP authentication between them”

So please grasp the concept behind each question well and check all the configuration carefully.

Hello guys, who have this lab in packet tracer ?

  2. wonderskid
    November 30th, 2018

Passed. There was a few drag and drops I did not see in the dumps. Gre multilink sim came up but I picked different answers as the configuration seemed different. Ospf , and Eirgp sim were the same. There were three questions about where to place a standard or extended acl. You are shown a picture with a network and asked what router and what interface would you place the acl.
I spent a lot of time on the sims and had less than a minute left when I finished the exam , I rushed the last 15 questions. good luck.

@Wonderskid how many sims were in your exam? Am taking mine next week. I need more clarity about that ACL question.

    December 9th, 2018

@Deus. I think i had three sims. regarding the Acl , KNow where to put a standard Acl and know where to put an extended acl.

Standard near the destination; Extended near the source.

you will be shown a diagram of a network , maybe three routers a few pcs. and asked ” where would you put a standard ACL to stop Pc a from connected to PC e? ”

So I would put it on the router near the source. ,if the question mentions an extended ACL, then you place it near the destination..as in PC e in this case.

Hmm it appears like your website ate my first comment (it was extremely
long) so I guess I’ll just sum it up what I wrote and say, I’m thoroughly
enjoying your blog. I too am an aspiring blog blogger but I’m still new to everything.
Do you have any suggestions for inexperienced blog writers?
    I’d certainly appreciate it.

@Anonymous – please do not rely on dumps alone, as there is strong chance you will see completely new questions in exam. even in these sims, they have appeared in exams, but different configurations, thrown all over the place. how much time have you been spending studying? its been 8 months for me lol, exam in 2 weeks. get official ccna study book.

I have spent almost a year and also took a class that was waste of time for me. I have been trying to learn this on my own. I don’t just rely on the dumps, but I do find they help when I
am studying I always read explanation so I can understand. I have been trying to do labs to help but I am still missing the concepts.
Any help you can provide would be appreciated.

hi all. had my CCNA ICND2 exam today. passed.scored 866. 811 is pass mark.55 questions. i struggled and had real concerns i would fail. loads of new multiple choice questions. EIGRP troubleshoot sim was in it. exact same question and answers as far as I saw. also GRE Sim with tunnel stuff was in it. had different answers, like error within the multi link config. multi link group looked fine, except in one interface where multi link was configured, there was no ip address configured. so i just guessed and chose answer about incorrect ip address in multi link on router. question about tunnel error, had different ip configurations. guessed one or 2 answers as worried i would run out of time. there was one nasty question about AAA/TACACS+ whole page of server config, username and passwords, and asks what outcome of this config will be, user account with local server or RADIUS server?

saw 3 drag and drops. i didnt pay much attention to drag and drops lol so it gave me trouble. saw new drag and drops that were not in dump, one about cloud service, order in which user requests services from provider. as well as one for difference between LACP and PAGP etherchannel stuff. ended up guessing. also drag and drop about the EIGRP k values, and match them to correct ones. K1, K2, K3,K4/K5 and match to answers like bandwidth, load, reliability, delay, MTU. more guess work.

I just passed my exam today. This sim was on the exam. Word for Word. Configs are completely off on cisco end however. They have the tunnel configured between Branch 2 and R1. It should be between Branch2 and R2. Also the chap and pap were also misconfigured. Basically guessed all these questions randomly picking answer as the questions are asking wrong question since typology is incorrect.

Hi guys. I had my exam today, Novemeber 15th, 2019 and passed- 963/1000. This question was in my exam. For question 2 in this sim, the answer in my exam was C-PPP encapsulation is not configured on Branch3.
Also for Q3, it was also modified and the answer was A- PPP PAP is authentication configured between Branch 2 and R1. Option D- The Branch3 LAN network 192.168.10.0/24 was actually advertised in the network.
Lastly, Question 4 had the Branch1 serial interface in a shutdown condition so the answer was D not A. The IP address on the PPP multilink interface on B1 router was properly configured.
So guys try and understand the concepts not just memorizing the answers, cos cisco can modify them. Goodluck!
