IPv6 OSPF Sim

Question

All routers are running IPv6 OSPF with process ID 100. The loopback0 IPv4 address is the OSPF router ID of each router.

On HQ router, a provider link is provided and you have to configure an IPv6 default route on HQ and make sure this route is advertised in IPv6 OSPF process. Also troubleshoot why HQ is not forming IPv6 OSPF neighbor with BR.

Requirements:

1. Configure IPv6 default route on HQ router with default gateway of 2001:DB8:B:B1B2::1
2. Verify by pinging provider test IPv6 address 2001:DB8:0:1111::1 after configuring default route on HQ
3. Make sure that the default route is advertised in IPv6 OSPF router HQ. This default route should be advertised only when HQ has a default route in its routing table
4. Router HQ is not forming IPv6 OSPF neighbor with BR. Troubleshoot and solve the problem

Special Note: To gain the maximum number of points, you must complete the necessary configurations and fix IPv6 OSPF neighbor issue with router BR. IPv6 OSPFv3 must be configured without using address families. Do not change the IPv6 OSPF process ID.

IPv6_OSPF_Topology.jpg

Solution

1. Configure IPv6 default route on HQ router with default gateway of 2001:DB8:B:B1B2::1:

HQ(config)#ipv6 unicast-routing
HQ(config)#ipv6 route ::/0 2001:DB8:B:B1B2::1

First we have to enable IPv6 routing with the “ipv6 unicast-routing” command then we configure a default route on HQ router.

2. Verify by pinging provider test IPv6 address 2001:DB8:0:1111::1 after configuring default route on HQ:

HQ#ping ipv6 2001:DB8:0:1111::1

Issue the ping test to see if the default route works. The ping must be successful.

3. Make sure that the default route is advertised in IPv6 OSPF router HQ. This default route should be advertised only when HQ has a default route in its routing table:

HQ(config)# ipv6 router ospf 100
HQ(config-rtr)#default-information originate

The command “default-information originate” will generate a default route and send to all other routers in the OSPF domain, provided that the local router has a default route configured.

4. Router HQ is not forming IPv6 OSPF neighbor with BR. Troubleshoot and solve the problem

Maybe interface S1/0 of HQ was not enabled with IPv6 OSPF (verify by the “show run” or “show ipv6 ospf interface” command) so we have to enable it.

HQ(config)#interface s1/0
HQ(config-if)#ipv6 ospf 100 area 0

After configuration use the “show ipv6 ospf neighbor” on HQ to see if BR is listed in the output.

    Is there a packet tracer file for this lab?

    There is broken image question checkbox appearing beside the config lines when I put in the commands. I tried pinging 2001:DB8:0:1111::1 after configuring but the success rate is still 0 and the “show ipv6 ospf neighbor” command lists out to be .

    All my statements are correct as per the explanation above. I’m not sure what the issue is.

    “show ipv6 ospf neighbor” shows an empty list. Missed this in the previous comment, sorry.

    I passed CCNA routing and switching exam on 2018.12.10. I got 6 lab questions in one exam: OSPF neighbor, OSPF with IPV6, VLAN, ACL-1, DHCP, GRE Multilink. The answers in GRE Multilink are quite different from the answers here, and VLAN has configuration a little different. But overall the materials here had been really helpful. Thank you 9tut!!

    Edberg sorry to hear that. dont give up. I will book my ICND2 exam soon. I would recommend sitting single exam, that way there is 90% chance you will have tons of annoying multiple choice questions, and 1-3 sims at max. thats how my ICND1 exam was. much less stress.

    Deus ait might be because you didn’t know the full command because when you reach there TAB doesn’t work you’re gonna have to type the full command until you reach INFORMATION O then when you TAB it will add ORIGINATE. It happened to me lucky I know the whole command by heart.

    Where do you get the AS number of 100 for ospf in this LAB? I do not see that AS# in the diagram or on the router.

  39. @AB
    February 28th, 2019

    @AB,

    This is not a BGP lab. This is an OSPF lab so you need process ID and not AS number. For the process ID for OSPF, it says in the statement at the very beginning saying the process ID for this OSPF scenario is 100.

    -In point #3 ( HQ(config)# ipv6 router ospf 100 )
    do we need the command “Router ID”?
    yes? no? why?

    ————-
    George, no I would say you dont need the command router ID. as in the question, it mentions that a loopback address is already configured with a router id. you can see it if you do show running-config command.

    OSPFv3 router ID: OSPFv3 is unable to set its own router ID like OSPFv2 does. Instead, you have to manually configure the router ID. It is configured as a 32-bit value, same as in OSPFv2.

    i configure HQ(config)#ipv6 route ::/1 2001:DB8:B:B1B2::1 instead of HQ(config)#ipv6 route ::/0 2001:DB8:B:B1B2::1 in no2 and ping still reply with 100%. Any advise please??
